LNY 2024 shows a smaller weight decrease than last year in China, HKG and Taiwan, and with tonnage up +24% YoY.
In this Peek of the Week, we show the pattern of the total air cargo tonnages to & from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan around Lunar New Year. LNY started on the 22nd of January (week 4) in 2023, whilst in 2024, it started two weeks later on the 10th of February (the end of week 6). For this reason, decreasing air cargo volumes to China already started in the 2nd week of 2023, recovering in the fourth and fifth week of the year. At WorldACD, we have two important observations: 1) this year’s weight decrease was smaller (-41%) than last year (-53%), and (2) overall tonnage to & from China, HKG and Taiwan is up significantly with +24% YoY.
