This week we provide some insights on the remarkable air cargo dynamics in Bangladesh. The local air cargo market has been deeply affected by the challenges in the Red Sea and the political unrest in Bangladesh.
Its most important export market is Europe by far (60% of total air export), followed by North America (15%) and Asia Pacific (13%). The market from Europe contracted in 2024, but overall air freight exports from Bangladesh have stayed relatively stable compared with 2023.
However, average air freight rates have exploded from $1.57 in July last year to $3.68 in July this year, so players in the export market from Bangladesh have seen rates more than double over the last 13 months (increase of +134%). Bangladesh has experienced the highest air cargo price increase of all countries in the world.
