The chart below shows how much home carriers rely on their home region market and how this has changed from Q1 2025 to Q1 2026. For each region, it shows the market share of airlines from that same region in outbound traffic. For example, it reflects the share of African airlines in the outbound Africa. The figures are based on chargeable weight and cover the 150 airlines we work with at WorldACD.
A few key observations:
- Home region market share increased for carriers from Africa, Europe, and Asia Pacific, while it declined for carriers from the Americas and Middle East & South Asia (MESA)
- While the percentage-point changes are relatively small, the absolute revenue impact is substantial.
- African carriers have the lowest home region market share, but saw the second largest increase, up 1.6 percentage points year-on-year.
- Asia Pacific carriers have by far the highest home region market share — 68% in Q1 2026 — supported by the large intra-Asia market.
- The war in the Middle East played a clear role in the declining home region market share of MESA carriers from Q1 2025 to Q1 2026
