At yesterday’s Nordic Air Cargo Symposium in Copenhagen, WorldACD’s Steven Ankersmit gave an update on key air cargo market trends for the Nordic region. His presentation included insights on growth markets for the Nordics, rate & capacity developments, a market outlook and the latest on the important fish & seafood market segment.
The chart below shows 15 years of tonnage developments from the key Nordics countries. A few take-ways for shipments with Nordics as origin on the airwaybill (excluding business trucked and consolidated outside Nordics):
– In 2024, air cargo tonnage was nearly +50% higher than in 2010, with average growth of +3% per year for this period
– Volumes in 2022-2024 remained relatively stable
– Sweden and Finland saw 2024 volumes below their 2010 levels
– Denmark’s 2024 volumes were +40% above 2010, but most tonnage growth came from Norway, which tripled its volume over the 15 years
