Before jumping into 2025, we look back at how the air cargo industry performed in 2024. A picture says more than a thousand words: in the charts below we show YoY changes in 2024 (vs. 2023) for different metrics. Chargeable weight (+11%) grew almost twice as fast as capacity (+6%), with rates on average stable (+1%), but revenue/charges up with a double-digit number (+12%).
Looking at the YoY developments by quarter, notice the steady capacity change as from Q2, the slowing of growth of chargeable weight (from double-digit in three consecutive quarters to ’only’ +8% in Q4), rates seeing big swings (from -17% in Q1 to +12% in Q3) and revenue/charges down in Q1 (-7%), but peaking at +25% in Q3. What a year for air cargo!
