With early May data now available in WorldACD’s database, we can see how different air cargo markets are performing, and identify the latest trends.
The visualization below highlights performance across the top 15 global sub-regions, which together account for 95% of the worldwide air cargo business. The table shows year-on-year (YoY) growth in chargeable weight for different time periods.
Key insights:
Year-on-year growth (2023 to 2024):
All 15 sub-regions reported YoY increases in chargeable weight. Growth ranged from +2% from Northern Europe to a significant +33% from the Gulf Area.
January–April 2025:
Most markets saw continued positive growth in 2025, with Northern Europe and Central America leading (percentage) growth during the first four months of the year.
April 2025:
The global air cargo business was up +6% YoY, doubling the +3% year-to-date growth through April. The strongest performance came from Northern Europe, China, and Southeast Asia.
Early May 2025 (week 18 & 19):
A +2% increase was recorded compared to the same period in 2024. Northern Europe continued to lead in growth, followed by Eastern Europe. China’s growth slowed to +8%, while USA experienced a -1% decline.
Market volatility remains widespread and is expected to continue, driven by ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
